Threat Assessment
The Ligonier Valley School District has established and trained a Threat Assessment Team. This team is designed to help prevent targeted school violence.
Threat Assessment is a fact-based investigative and analytical approach that:
- Focuses on what a particular student is doing and saying, and;
- Not on whether the student “looks like” those who have attacked schools in the past.
Threat assessment emphasizes the importance of such behavior and communications for identifying, evaluating, and reducing the risk posed by an individual who may be thinking about or planning for a school-based attack.
If there is ever a concern about an individual, it is important that the concern is communicated. Here are some avenues for that communication:
- If immediate danger is feared, call 911 immediately.
- The Safe2Say Something portal is a way to initiate the process as well.
- Contact a member of the Threat Assessment Team via email or phone.
