Return to Play Guidance 2020-2021
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted athletics at all levels including interscholastic sports. In order to provide the safest possible conditions for our athletes returning to practice and competition, the Ligonier Valley School District has implemented a plan that aligns to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The plan, as required, has been approved by the Ligonier Valley School District Board of Education. The guidelines allow for interscholastic sports to resume in the yellow or green designation of the state's reopening plan with certain restrictions.
UPDATE - AUGUST 26, 2020
The PIAA voted that official start date for Fall Sports is Monday, August 24th. Schools always have the option on their own to delay that start if they want to seek Board or Administrative approval before beginning.
While Allegheny County modified their gathering restriction for OUTDOOR events to basically align with the state limit of 250 total people, the INDOOR gathering for everyone is still 25. That is a state mandate as part of the Return to Sports Guidelines.
Also included in that guidance is the following statement: Band and cheer are also allowed in a sports setting, but individuals involved in such activities count towards gathering limitations and must comply with face covering order and social distancing guidelines. Visitors and spectators are prohibited from attending in-person sports-related activities.” We are seeking clarification if media are allowed to attend.
