The Ligonier Valley Middle School includes project-based learning (PBL) as part of its educational program. Learners work on challenging long-term projects that emphasize solving real-world problems and answering authentic questions. They are able to draw upon knowledge, skills, principles, and concepts from all disciplines to formulate their solutions. The focus of their investigations is based on personal interests and are linked to career pathways. Teachers advise and facilitate PBL.
This year, learners will be engaged in this inquiry learning on Wednesday afternoons. They will be grouped by common interests and not by grade-levels. Topic choices will include agriculture, community service, toy technology, ecology, graphic design, theater, healthy living, philanthropy, and news broadcasting. Learners, however, are not limited to this set of topics. They can identify other interests to explore.
