R. K. Mellon Elementary School
Welcome to R. K. Mellon Elementary School in the Ligonier Valley School District. We are located at the end of Bell Street behind the Ligonier Valley Middle School. We invite parents to visit the school and learn more about our programs and events.
It is our goal to instruct each student at their own level through the varying stages of their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Our faculty has high expectations for their students and expects them to work hard toward success.

Our dedicated team of teachers and staff are committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.
Here are a few highlights and updates for the upcoming school year:
- Dedicated and Caring Educators: Our highly qualified teachers are passionate about fostering a love for learning in every student. They employ innovative teaching strategies to engage young minds and tailor instruction to meet individual needs.
- Rigorous Academic Programs: We offer a well-rounded curriculum that encompasses core subjects such as language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Additionally, we provide opportunities for specials in art, music, physical education, library, computers and STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Math) allowing students to explore their interests and possible passions of their future.
- Parental Engagement: We strongly believe that a child's education is a collaborative effort between school and home. We encourage active parental involvement through various channels, such as parent-teacher conferences, volunteer opportunities, sitting with your child(ren) each evening to discuss their school day and joining the Parent Teacher Organization - PTO. Our PTO, is a very friendly organization that collaborates with the school and teachers to help support our goals.
We look forward to a year filled with meaningful relationships, exciting discoveries, and significant accomplishments. Together, we will foster a positive and inclusive school culture that nurtures the whole child.
Please mark your calendars for our upcoming Open House (Sept. 13, 5:30-7:00) where you will have the opportunity to meet our dedicated staff, tour the school and learn more about our programs. Additional details will be provided closer to the event. **Please note that if your student is in K4 or Kindergarten, the orientation will serve as your open house.
